Senior DevOps Engineer


Peak Performers has partnered with a workers compensation insurance company to assist in their search for a Senior DevOps Engineer in Austin, Tx (NO C2C). In this position, you will be responsible for working on enterprise-wide CI/CD/CT, IaC, security implementations, software deployment projects, DevOps strategy, and process improvements.

Major duties

  • Serve as a senior technical leader helping define the enterprise DevOps strategy.
  • Develop technical processes that improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and increase performance at scale across development teams.
  • Automate the build and deployment of custom application code throughout the application lifecycle.
  • Build monitoring solutions that improve application visibility and help manage operational workload.
  • Create scalable, deployable infrastructure and educate others on infrastructure as code best practices.
  • Develop container orchestration solutions to support application deployment and lifecycle management in AWS.
  • Act as a DevSecOps SME for development teams and help troubleshoot development toolchain issues.
  • Architect and implement Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform and Terraform Cloud.
  • Design and optimize secure, scalable CI/CD/CT pipelines using Azure DevOps or future platform technologies.
  • Drive security automation using SAST, DAST, SCA, and container scanning tools.
  • Mentor, guide, and train junior DevSecOps staff and internal development teams on DevOps best practices.
  • Support the enterprise DevSecOps toolchain across both strategic and operational activities.
  • Collaborate with development, IT operations, and security teams to integrate security into all phases of software delivery.
  • Help design and build a next-generation Integrated Development Platform using GenAI and ML technologies.
  • Lead transformative CI/CD/CT automation, shift-left integrations, and DevSecOps maturity improvements.
  • Support large-scale transitions to AWS ECS using IaC, container orchestration, and zero-downtime strategies.
  • Drive cloud adoption efforts, including cloud governance, FinOps, and IaC, to improve scalability, cost, and innovation.
  • Translate complex initiatives into sprint-driven deliverables and measurable operational outcomes.
  • Work with development teams to understand challenges and design data-driven workflow improvements.
  • Apply security frameworks such as NIST and CIS using automation and policy as code.
  • Develop DevSecOps tooling and process enhancements that support Internal Development Platform goals and platform engineering practices.
  • Align DevSecOps and Platform Engineering initiatives with business objectives to deliver real value.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, or related field or equivalent training and experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in DevOps and Cloud Engineering/Operations.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on AWS experience.  SAA, SysOps, SAPro, and DevOps Pro certs preferred.
  • At least 3 years of software development experience utilizing a modern development language(s) and applicable framework(s).
  • Expert-level knowledge of Terraform and Terraform Cloud (HCP) for infrastructure automation.
  • Strong proficiency with CI/CD platforms, particularly Azure DevOps and Jenkins/Cloudbees CI.
  • Hands-on experience with SonarQube (or an equivalent technology) for code quality analysis.
  • Deep understanding of observability and performance monitoring with a tool such as Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk, New Relic, Prometheus+Grafana, and/or ELK Stack.
  • Extensive knowledge of IAM, secrets management, zero-trust security architectures, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, and/or PowerShell.
  • Proficiency in both Windows and Linux-based operating systems.
  • Proven ability to lead initiatives, drive cultural transformation, and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Never-ending curiosity and desire to try new things.
  • Excellent communications skills.
Preferred
  • Certifications in DevOps tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, and Docker
  • Experience building and integrating with APIs
  • Experience with Java and Springboot applications
  • Certified Docker Associate
  • Hands-on experience with Hashicorp Sentinel and Packer
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator
  • Masters degee in CS, IT, or related engineering field
  • 104+ years of direct, hands-on experience
  • Experience with AngularJS, NodeJS, or ReactJS applications
  • Hashicorp Terraform Associate or Terraform Authoring and Operations Professional certifications.
  • Experience building an Integrated Development Platform (IDP)
  • AWS Certifications such as Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate, SysOps Associate,  ML Engineer Associate,  Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Professional, or any of the AWS Speciality certifications
  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CKS, or OSCP
  • Linux administrator certifications.
  • Knowledge of SRE concepts around application hardening, automated scaling, fault-tolerance, A/B testing
  • Experience implementing deployment methods such as blue/green deployments, immutable deployments, rolling deployments, and canary deployments

  • Base Pay Range: $136,408.00 - $163,000.00 Per Year + annual bonus opportunities
