Job Summary and Qualifications
The Advanced Paramedic provides direct patient care, within the scope of the Paramedic/EMT Practice Act and under the direction of the Registered Nurse, in the Emergency Department. As an ER Advanced Paramedic, you perform a variety of functions for patients requiring urgent or emergency attention. What qualifications you will need:
- You will assist with obtaining and documentation of vital signs and placement of oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
- You will assist with other technical functions such as: obtaining 12-lead EKGs, discontinuation of peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks and maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- You will assist with patient care and treatments including positioning patients, application of sterile dressings, immobilization of extremities, cast and splint applications.
- You will complete basic psychomotor skills and activities related to care.
- You will assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters and nasogastric tubes.
- You will report and document vital signs, test results, procedures and pertinent data in concise and timely manner.
- You will clean and stock carts, rooms, and change linen as required.
- You will provides written instructions and/or educational materials to patients and family members.
What qualifications you will need:
- Current licensure in the State as a Paramedic. EMT-P required
- Emergency Medical Paramedic (EMP)
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a field Paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a hospital
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- PALS Pediatric Adv Life Support, or PALS Instructor must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
